The National Energy Services Company (Tarshid) through its subsidiary and the Saudi Railway Company (SAR) signed a contract to implement energy-saving measures and increase energy efficiency in SAR’s headquarters building and the buildings and facilities of the Riyadh North Station. This marks the first of its kind agreement within the private, logistics, and transportation sectors in the Kingdom, as this collaboration aims to apply energy efficiency solutions in alignment with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 and the Saudi Green Initiative to implement more sustainable and low-carbon solutions.
This contract outlines a comprehensive retrofit project with estimated annual energy savings of approximately 7 GWh, accumulating to a total of 105 GWh over the project lifespan. Key enhancements include installing a chiller control system and variable speed drives for chilled water pumps; implementing a control system for air handling units and exhaust fans, integrating them with the central cooling plant's operation; installing solar panels across the project's buildings and facilities rooftop; upgrading to high-performance LED lighting systems; and installing occupancy sensors and motion detectors throughout the headquarters and Riyadh North Station facilities.
Waled Al-Ghreri, Board Member and CEO of Tarshid, stated: “We at Tarshid are working to achieve the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 by increasing energy efficiency and promoting sustainability through strategic partnerships with both the government and privat sectors. Through our collaboration with the Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR), we aim to achieve effective results in energy efficiency and deliver improved operational performance, as we look forward to make (SAR) a model to be followed in the in the logistics and transportation sector.”
In addition to improving air conditioning and lighting performance, the project is expected to save the equivalent of over 168,000 barrels of oil and avoid approximately 60,000 metric tons of harmful carbon emissions. This is comparable to the environmental impact of planting more than one million seedlingsover the project’s duration. Tarshid remains committed to its mission of supporting the Kingdom’s strategic sustainability goals under Vision 2030 by achieving energy saving and reducing carbon.
