The National Energy Services Company (Tarshid) and Al-Amal Mental Health Hospital "Irada" have launched the energy efficiency project for the hospital's buildings and facilities in Al-Qurayyat, across 19 buildings, aims to increase energy efficiency and reduce consumption in line with international best practices.
Explained by Waled Al Ghreri, Board Member and CEO of Tarshid; Following comprehensive on-site surveys and technical studies, Tarshid identified 10 key energy-saving measures focusing on control systems, air conditioning and lighting. These include upgrading the chiller control system, implementing scheduling for air handling units, and installing variable frequency drives (VFDs) for improved performance. Outdated air conditioning chillers will be replaced with energy-efficient models, and the building management system will be upgraded and integrated with the new cooling and air conditioning systems to optimise their performance. Lighting systems will also be upgraded with high-performance, energy saving LED lights, along with occupancy sensors and smart motion detectors.
The project targets a 20 % reduction in annual electricity consumption, from 4.5 million kilowatt-hours to 3.7 million kilowatt-hours. This translates to an annual saving of over 1,500 barrels of oil equivalent and a reduction of approximately 500 metric tons of harmful carbon emissions – the equivalent of planting more than 9,000 seedlings annually.
The National Energy Services Company (Tarshid) was launched in 2017 to be the leading energy services company in the Kingdom. The company supports the energy sector and promotes sustainability by integrating energy efficiency, operational efficiency, and clean energy. Tarshid's mission aligns with the Kingdom's strategic sustainability goals derived from Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to achieve significant energy savings and reduce carbon emissions.
