The National Energy Services Company (Tarshid) has launched the energy efficiency project at the Imam Abdulrahman Al Faisal Hospital to implement a comprehensive retrofitting program across the hospital's buildings and facilities in Riyadh. The initiative targets a 30% reduction in energy consumption across 13 buildings, encompassing a total area of 27,000 square meters, utilizing best-in-class standards.
Waled bin Abdullah Al-Ghreri, The Managing Director and CEO of Tarshid, explained that following comprehensive on-site surveys and technical studies, Tarshid identified 11 key areas for energy efficiency measures, focusing on HVAC, lighting, and control systems. The project will involve replacing chillers and several split and packaged air conditioning units with more energy-efficient models.
The project scope also includes installing control systems for air conditioning units, chilled water pumps, air handling units, and cooling fans. A building management system (BMS) and occupancy sensors in rooms and clinics will also be implemented. Furthermore, the project will retrofit existing lighting with high-performance, energy-saving LED systems.
The project aims to reduce annual electricity consumption from approximately 11 million kilowatt-hours to 7.8 million kilowatt-hours, with 30% energy savings, and to improve performance of air conditioning and lighting systems. This reduction equates to conserving over 5,000 barrels of oil equivalent and avoiding approximately 2,000 metric tons of harmful carbon emissions – the equivalent of planting more than 32,000 seedlings annually.
Tarshid established in 2017 to become the leading company in the energy services sector, through promoting integration between energy efficiency, operational efficiency and renewable energy. Tarshid’s mission aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, aiming to achieve significant energy savings and reduce carbon emissions as part of the Kingdom’s strategic sustainability goals.
