The National Energy Services Company (Tarshid) and Al-Qurayyat General Hospital have partnered to launch the retrofitting project for the hospital's buildings and facilities, with total of 35 buildings. The project aims to achieve an 18% reduction in energy consumption, aligning with best practises and high standards.
Commenting on the project's details, Mr. Waled AlGhreri, a Board Member and the CEO of Tarshid, stated that the company had conducted field surveys and technical studies on the buildings and facilities within the project's scope, which revealed of the importance of applying 13 key measures crucial for increasing energy efficiency. These focus on systems for control, air conditioning, and lighting, including of upgrading the chiller control system, scheduling air handling units, and installing variable frequency drives (VFDs) to regulate speed and improve performance. Furthermore, some air conditioning chillers will be replaced with energy-efficient models, and the building management system will be upgraded and integrated with rehabilitated cooling and air conditioning systems to optimize their performance. Lighting systems will also be upgraded by replacing the current conventional lights with energy-efficient LED systems that deliver high performance in operational environments, along with installing occupancy sensors and smart motion detectors.
The project targets an annual electricity consumption of approximately 14 million kilowatt-hours to around 12 million kilowatt-hours, achieving an 18% energy savings. This translates into saving over 4,000 barrels of oil equivalent and avoiding approximately 1,400 metric tons of harmful carbon emissions, equivalent to the environmental impact of planting more than 24,000 tree seedlings annually.
The National Energy Services Company (Tarshid) was launched in 2017 as the leading energy services company in the Kingdom. The company supports the energy sector and promotes sustainability by integrating energy efficiency, operational efficiency, and clean energy. Tarshid's mission aligns with the Kingdom's strategic sustainability goals derived from Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to achieve significant energy savings and reduce carbon emissions.
