The National Energy Services Company (Tarshid) and King Abdulaziz Specialist Hospital have launched the retrofitting project for the hospital's buildings and facilities in Al-Jouf, with a total of 10 buildings, aiming at increasing energy efficiency and reduce consumption according to the highest global standards.
In a press release issued today, Tarshid Board Member and CEO Waled Al-Ghreri said that the company conducted on-site surveys and technical studies of the buildings and facilities within the project scope. The findings emphasized the importance of applying 13 key measures, including systems for control, air conditioning, and lighting. These measures include upgrading the chiller control system, scheduling air handling units, and installing variable frequency drives (VFDs) to regulate speed and improve performance.
Furthermore, some air conditioning chillers will be replaced with energy-efficient models, and the building management system will be upgraded and integrated with the new cooling and air conditioning systems to optimize their performance.
Lighting systems will also be upgraded by replacing the current conventional lights with energy-saving LED systems that deliver high performance in operational environments, along with installing occupancy sensors and smart motion detectors.
According to the release, the project targets an annual electricity consumption of 12.8 million kilowatt-hours, which is expected to drop to 9.8 million kilowatt-hours after the retrofitting work, with an annual estimated 22% energy savings. This translates into saving over 4,000 barrels of oil equivalent and reducing approximately 1,400 metric tons of harmful carbon emissions, equivalent to the environmental impact of planting more than 23,000 tree seedlings annually.
